Roman Candle Productions have now completed Sci Fi short film called AFRO PUNK GIRL, selected for the Film London/BFI London Calling Plus scheme 2016.

In a dystopian, post apocalyptic Britain, a self-professed young punk discovers true rebellion when she meets a radical old dandy.

AFRO PUNK GIRL is a dystopian sci-fi drama set in a near future Britain, where Christmases are hot, nights are filled with violent muggings and the government is replaced by a military leadership enforcing the “Happiness Agenda”.

Lil, an afro punk rocker on her way north to the New World in search of food and her lost family. She meets Mr Dandy, an alcoholic rebel with an electronic voice box, who offers access to food in exchange for a lift on her rickshaw.

Lil reluctantly agrees as she has run out of food. A loner at heart, she finds herself drawn to Mr Dandy’s effervescent nature, and they form a bond. When they get caught stealing food from a government fish farm, Lil must choose between saving herself or rescuing her new friend and jeopardizing her trip to the New World.





Danielle is known for playing regular role LOUISE in E4’s teen comedy YOUNGERS. She was also cast as Tia in the BAFTA nominated ATTACK THE BLOCK and in the multi award nominated film HONEYTRAP.



Larrington wide range of credits include include INSPECTOR MORSE, THE BILL, DOCTORS & HOLBY CITY.

Theatre credits range from being a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company between 2008-2011, STUFF HAPPENS at the National Theatre, DADDY COOL at the Shaftesbury Theatre, as well as RUDY’S RARE RECORDS at Hackney Empire.



Shobu has worked in the entertainment industry for over 25 years as an actor and writer and producer. She began her career as a production coordinator on 2 series of documentary films about Indian Cinema for Channel 4, before training as an actor.

Anya has joined the team of AFRO PUNK GIRL as a freelance producer. She brings extensive knowledge of project management and business development expertise to her role. In addition to AFRO PUNK GIRL, Anya is producing an independent feature film and developing her own projects.


Robin Whenary’s atmospheric and inventive cinematography can be seen in the BAFTA-nominated Sci-Fi short film ORBIT EVER AFTER. In this film Robin created a magical look and technically challenging effects on a low budget. His graduation film SKYBORN was nominated for a Student Academy Award, a British Independent Film Award, and won a 2013 Grierson Award.


John McHugh’s extensive design experience ranges from Popular, Factual and Prime Time Entertainment to Drama, Theatre and CGI Animation. Credits include BBC drama series BROTHERS AND SISTERS, and Channel 5 documentary series AUTOPSY.


Louisa Thomas is an exceptionally talented and intuitive costume designer who has worked on many award winning short films including the Student Oscar nominated SKYBORN and the BAFTA nominated ORBIT EVER AFTER. She has excelled in creating a very distinctive look for Afro Punk Girl.


Allison Edwards has many years of experience working in the film industry. Her collaborations range from Hollywood director Paul Greengrass to independent filmmakers Carol Morley, and Menelik Shabazz and John Akomfrah.


Bev Harling, a former member of the No. 1 Classical Chart selling group the Mediaeval Baebes, is a multi-instrumentalist/composer having played in many different musical projects ranging from jazz, folk noir, classical, roots, argentinian tango and pop, utilizing her skills as vocalist, violinist, guitarist and piano player. Her vast writing credits include the soundtrack for Channel 4 film  THINSPIRATION from the “Coming Up” series and music for lingerie company MYLA  ad campaign.

Frank Moon is an award winning composer and multi instrumentalist who writes for the stage as well as the screen. In 2014 Frank was nominated for a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Composers Award.
